By Nelda Rodillo, Founder of Vintage Vitality™
For many years, my life revolved around junk journaling. I created and sold over a hundred handmade journals, shared 376 videos on my NeldasCrafts and Inspirations YouTube channel, and offered tutorials on crafting, journaling, and paper-based mental health practices. My Etsy shop was a hub of creativity, where digital kits and one-of-a-kind journals found loving homes. I built a community of loyal customers and more than 5,000 subscribers who shared my passion for bringing vintage papers and old books to new life.
But when Etsy closed my shop after a scam, I was heartbroken. The business I had built over years, the connections I had nurtured, and the creative life I loved were suddenly disrupted. My craft room remains full of supplies, treasures from antique shops, and the papers that once inspired daily creation. I loved every part of the process—curating, layering, creating something unique and beautiful from pieces that once seemed ordinary.
It was during this period of change that I turned deeply to Tai Chi and Yoga. To my surprise, I found that these practices offered the same calm and peace that journaling had given me. Moving mindfully, layering intention into each pose, and cultivating awareness in my body felt like creating a journal from scratch. Just as I transform old papers into art, Tai Chi and mindful movement transform my body into a space of balance, vitality, and calm.
Yet, my love for journaling never left me. I continue to write daily, and my hands still crave creation. I realized that the healing, peace, and strength that journaling gives me can also be shared in a new way.
This realization inspired the creation of Vintage Vitality™—my signature approach that fuses gentle Tai Chi and mindful movement with mindful paper-crafting and journaling. Vintage Vitality is about healing the body and nurturing the mind, finding calm and confidence in movement while exploring creativity that soothes, inspires, and restores.
Through Vintage Vitality™, I invite you to experience the same transformation—to reconnect with your body, honor its wisdom, and nurture your mind with creative, mindful practices. Whether it’s a slow flow in Tai Chi or the careful layering of a journal page, each moment can bring you vitality, balance, and a deep sense of peace.
Vintage Vitality™ isn’t just about movement—it’s about connecting body, mind, and creativity. After a gentle Tai Chi session, your body is awake, your mind is calm, and your senses are heightened. This is the perfect moment to pick up your journal.
Here are a few simple ways to integrate journaling into your practice:
Reflect on Your Movement: Write about how your body feels, what you noticed during your practice, or any areas of tension or ease.
Capture Your Energy: Describe the sensations, colors, or images that came to mind while moving. Treat your experience like a blank page waiting for your creative touch.
Set Intentions: Use your journal to note intentions for the day, week, or month—whether it’s to nurture your body, cultivate calm, or embrace curiosity.
Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge the progress you feel, whether it’s steadier balance, more fluid movements, or simply showing up for yourself.
Even just a few minutes of mindful journaling after movement can amplify the sense of calm, clarity, and vitality you feel—turning your practice into a holistic experience for body and mind.
