There is something special about watching a community grow together.
What began with a small Tai Chi class in Palmerston has continued to evolve into something much bigger—a welcoming space where older adults can move, connect, build confidence, and discover that growing older does not mean giving up strength, vitality, or independence.
This fall, Vintage Vitality™ is opening a new chapter.
I am excited to introduce Tai Chi for Osteoporosis to Palmerston, in partnership with the Seniors’ Centre for Excellence.
Beginning Wednesday, September 9, 2026, we will meet every Wednesday morning from 9:00–10:00 AM at the United Church in Palmerston for a six-week series running through October 14.
And there is something important I want everyone to know:
Although this program is called Tai Chi for Osteoporosis, it is designed to support all seniors who want to care for their bones, improve strength and balance, and continue moving with confidence as they age.
Bone health is an important part of healthy aging. As we grow older, maintaining strength, balance, mobility, and confidence becomes increasingly valuable—not only for our physical wellbeing, but also for our ability to continue participating in the activities and communities we love.
Tai Chi offers a gentle and enjoyable way to keep moving.
Tai Chi is often described as meditation in motion, but for older adults it can also become a meaningful part of an active-aging lifestyle.
Its slow, controlled movements encourage us to pay attention to our posture, alignment, weight shifting, balance, breathing, and body awareness.
There is no rushing.
There is no need to compete.
We simply move at a pace that allows us to be present with our bodies.
For many seniors, that gentle approach can make movement feel approachable rather than intimidating.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful things about Tai Chi is that it reminds us that small movements can still be meaningful movements.
A shift of weight.
A change in posture.
A slow opening and closing of the arms.
A steady breath.
A moment of balance.
Together, these simple movements can become part of a larger practice of caring for ourselves as we age.
Our bones are part of the foundation that allows us to move through life.
Supporting bone health is therefore not simply about bones themselves. It is also about maintaining the strength, balance, mobility, and confidence that help us stay active and engaged.
This is why I am particularly excited to bring Tai Chi for Osteoporosis to Palmerston.
The program provides an opportunity to learn and practice gentle Tai Chi movements within a supportive group environment, while encouraging participants to remain active and connected.
And importantly, this is not a class reserved for people with osteoporosis.
It is an invitation for seniors who want to make movement and healthy aging part of their lives.
When I think back to where this journey began, I am deeply grateful.
Vintage Vitality™ started in Palmerston with just a few students and no permanent venue. Today, the program has grown into multiple communities, with more seniors discovering the joy of gentle Tai Chi and mindful movement.
Palmerston remains especially meaningful to me because it was where this journey began.
Now, as we introduce Tai Chi for Osteoporosis, we are building upon that foundation once again.
This new offering is not about replacing what we already have. It is about expanding the ways we can support older adults in our community.
Our current Palmerston Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention series is coming to an end, with just one session remaining. From there, we will continue our journey together with this brand new six-week program.
One class ends.
Another begins.
And the movement continues.
You may already practice Tai Chi.
You may be completely new to it.
You may be looking for a gentle way to become more active.
You may simply want to spend an hour each week moving with other seniors in a friendly and supportive environment.
Wherever you are beginning, you are welcome.
There is no need to be flexible.
There is no need to know the movements beforehand.
There is no need to keep up with anyone else.
We meet ourselves where we are—and we move forward from there.
That is at the heart of Vintage Vitality™.
Aging with dignity, strength, and grace.
