By Nelda Rodillo, Founder of Vintage Vitality™
Vintage Vitality™ didn’t begin as a brand.
It didn’t begin as a business idea.
It began as a life — my life — unfolding in ways I never expected.
Before any of this existed, all I wanted was to share Tai Chi with people. Not as a trend or a fitness routine, but as a practice that healed me when I needed it most. Tai Chi strengthened my body, softened my mind, and steadied my spirit. It held me through seasons of grief, uncertainty, and change. And I thought, If this helped me, maybe it can help someone else too.
So I trained.
I traveled long distances.
I invested time, money, and heart into learning.
I earned certifications.
I showed up.
And still, I faced silence.
Rejection.
Empty rooms.
Doors that didn’t open.
But I kept going because something inside me knew: this practice mattered.
Long before Vintage Vitality™, I was a junk journaler — an avid one. I created over a hundred handmade journals, each stitched with intention, each page a small sanctuary for reflection. I designed digital kits for mental health, gratitude, and everyday moments. My Etsy shop became a place where creativity met healing.
And then, without warning, it was gone.
Closed.
Erased.
Not because of anything I did — just gone.
Losing that space felt like losing a part of myself. So I went inward. I stopped creating for others and started tending to my own heart. I devoted myself to Tai Chi and yoga. I rebuilt my strength from the inside out.
I didn’t know it then, but something new was forming quietly beneath the surface.
When you lose something you poured your soul into, you learn what truly matters.
You learn patience.
You learn humility.
You learn to listen.
You learn to move slowly.
You learn to begin again.
And in that stillness, Tai Chi became more than movement. It became a philosophy. A way of living. A way of aging with awareness, dignity, and grace.
I didn’t set out to combine my two passions — movement and journaling.
They simply found each other again, like old friends meeting in a new season.
Working in long‑term care changed me.
Sitting with residents in their final days changed me.
Watching their hands tremble as they lifted a spoon changed me.
Seeing their pride when they managed a small movement changed me.
Holding the hand of someone who had no family changed me.
These moments taught me what vitality truly means.
It’s not youth.
It’s not speed.
It’s not perfection.
Vitality is presence.
Vitality is dignity.
Vitality is the courage to keep moving — even slowly.
Vitality is honouring the body you have today.
Every day I spend with residents reminds me that my health is a gift.
My strength is a gift.
My ability to move is a gift.
And I want to use that gift to help others.
Not from strategy.
Not from branding.
Not from a business plan.
Vintage Vitality™ emerged from:
the journals I once stitched by hand
the Tai Chi that healed me
the yoga that grounded me
the residents who taught me dignity
the losses that humbled me
the silence that shaped me
the resilience that carried me
the stories I’ve written — 93 and counting
the desire to help others age with awareness and grace
It formed itself.
It took shape without forcing.
It grew from the life I lived, not the life I planned.
Vintage Vitality™ is my offering — a blend of movement, reflection, and compassion. A space where aging is honoured, not feared. A space where slow is beautiful. A space where every breath, every step, every moment matters.
This is my story.
This is my work.
This is my heart.
Vintage Vitality™: Aging with dignity, strength, and grace through Tai Chi, gentle movement, and creative journaling.
If you’ve been following my journey through the quiet strength, loss, and lessons that shaped Vintage Vitality™, the next chapter is calling. As I approach my 60th birthday, I’m following my heart all the way to the Wudang Mountains in China, to deepen my Tai Chi practice, explore mindful movement, and continue blending it with creative journaling.
Join me as I share Postcards from the Mat, reflections, and insights from this next step in living fully with strength, awareness, and grace.
If this story speaks to you—if you’ve known loss, quiet beginnings, or the courage it takes to start again—I invite you to continue the journey through my Vintage Vitality™ series.
These writings were born from the same places you’ve just walked with me: healing, reflection, resilience, and the gentle practice of beginning again. Each piece offers a moment to pause, to reconnect, and to move forward with intention—one breath, one step at a time.
You don’t have to rush.
You don’t have to be perfect.
Just begin where you are.
