Yesterday was the first day of my 6‑week Gentle Tai Chi series at the Mount Forest Sports Complex — and what happened still fills my heart this morning.
I walked into the room expecting 15, maybe 20 participants.
Instead, 32 seniors filled the space wall to wall — smiling, curious, warm, and ready to move. It was one of those moments where you pause, breathe, and quietly say thank you.
This community continues to surprise me in the most beautiful ways.
From the moment we began, the energy was soft, welcoming, and alive. These were older adults who didn’t come to “exercise” — they came to reconnect with their bodies, with each other, and with a sense of possibility.
We talked about unfreezing the body — letting go of stiffness, tension, and the belief that movement has to be hard to be meaningful. And together, we practiced exactly that.
Slowly.
Gently.
With curiosity instead of pressure.
I taught with my hand brace on, a reminder of the injury I’m still healing from. But the moment we began moving, something shifted.
Tai Chi is not supposed to hurt.
It’s not supposed to strain.
It’s not supposed to push you past your limits.
And yesterday, it didn’t.
My body flowed with them — soft, steady, supported by breath and intention. It was a powerful reminder of why I love this practice and why it’s so perfect for older adults.
Throughout the session, I watched 32 people:
soften their shoulders
breathe a little deeper
find their footing
smile at themselves
rediscover ease
We weren’t just practicing Tai Chi.
We were practicing permission — permission to move gently, to slow down, to feel good in our bodies again.
The room felt like a shared exhale.
There is something special about Mount Forest.
This small town shows up — fully, wholeheartedly, and with so much warmth.
Yesterday wasn’t just a class.
It was a gathering of people choosing wellness, choosing connection, choosing joy.
And I am deeply grateful to be part of that.
