Vintage Vitality™ did not begin as a business idea.
It began as a legacy — one planted by my parents, nurtured through decades of service, and carried forward through movement, compassion, and community.
This is their story.
And it is the foundation of mine.
My father lived a long and meaningful life. He was 91 when he passed away on April 15, 2022 — just months shy of his 92nd birthday. A Philippine Scout veteran, he served with courage and dignity. But beyond his military service, he was a storyteller at heart. He wrote magazine articles, crafted scripts, and directed plays performed during town fiestas. Creativity flowed naturally through him.
Even as arthritis and gout slowly affected his mobility, his mind remained sharp, and his commitment to community never faded. Together with my mother, he founded the Ginintuang Binhi Elderly Association in Camella Springville — “Golden Seeds.” What began as small gatherings in our home grew into a thriving organization of 81 active senior members.
My father even formed a special group called the Shooting Stars, teaching marching formations for town events. Despite his physical pain, he practiced with them, guided them, and stood proudly as part of the formation. Movement and community were essential to him — even when his body struggled.
When the pandemic arrived and gatherings stopped, the sudden stillness took a toll on him. By the time activities resumed, he had grown much weaker. When he passed away, I was in Canada. It was his wish that I stay, but not being there was painful.
In my grief, I turned to Tai Chi.
Through gentle movement and quiet breath, I found a way to heal — and a deeper purpose began to take shape.
My mother, Aida Gatpandan, now 88, is the quiet strength behind everything our family has built. She and my father founded Ginintuang Binhi together — not as an organization, but as an act of love. What started as small gatherings in our living room grew into a community that continues to flourish today.
She is a woman of deep compassion, discipline, and presence.
Her leadership is not loud — it is steady, consistent, and rooted in service.
Even now, she remains a guiding force in the community. She attends events, supports seniors, and continues the work she and my father began decades ago. Her vitality, her devotion, and her belief in the dignity of aging have shaped my own mission more than she realizes.
Every time I teach a class, write a blog, or guide someone through gentle movement, I am carrying her legacy forward.
My parents built their lives around:
service
community
creativity
leadership
compassion
dignity for elders
These values became the soil where Vintage Vitality™ would eventually grow.
Their work with seniors — long before “aging well” became a movement — taught me that aging is not a decline. It is a continuation. A season of wisdom, connection, and meaning.
Their devotion to community taught me that movement is not just physical — it is emotional, social, and spiritual.
Their resilience taught me that strength can be gentle.
When my father passed, Tai Chi became my anchor.
When I began working in long‑term care, I saw firsthand how movement, presence, and compassion can transform a person’s day — even in their final hours.
Somewhere in that journey, I realized:
Vintage Vitality™ is not just my work.
It is my inheritance.
It is the continuation of the seeds my parents planted:
the belief that elders deserve dignity
the understanding that movement is medicine
the commitment to community
the love of creativity and storytelling
the desire to help others age with grace
Every class I teach, every program I design, every blog I write — all of it carries their imprint.
Through Tai Chi, gentle movement, resilience training, and creative journaling, Vintage Vitality™ is my way of honoring:
my father’s strength, creativity, and love for movement
my mother’s leadership, devotion, and compassion
the community they built
the values they lived
the seeds they planted
Their legacy continues through every person I teach, every senior I support, and every moment of presence I offer.
For my father — whose strength, creativity, and love for community continue to guide my path.
For my mother — whose devotion, leadership, and compassion remain the heart of everything I do.
Vintage Vitality™ exists because of them.
And through this work, their legacy lives on.
