Some moments feel like a gentle reminder that when we follow our purpose with sincerity and dedication, unexpected doors can open.
I am deeply grateful and honoured to share that my abstract, “Full Circle Vitality: A Community-Based, Cross-Cultural Model for Active Aging,” has been selected for an oral presentation at the 55th Annual Scientific and Educational Meeting of the Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG2026).
The presentation will take place during the session:
“Rethinking Health and Wellbeing: Meaning, Concepts and Approaches”
Friday, October 16, 2026 | 4:00–5:30 PM
CAG2026 will be held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from October 15–17, 2026, bringing together professionals, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and individuals with a shared interest in aging and wellbeing. The Canadian Association on Gerontology is Canada’s premier multidisciplinary association dedicated to advancing knowledge and leadership in the field of aging. The 2026 conference theme, “Crossing Currents: Navigating Aging through Collaboration and Coordinated Action,” reflects the importance of bringing different perspectives together to support healthier aging across communities.
When I first began sharing gentle Tai Chi and mindful movement in rural communities, my dream was simple:
To help people age with greater confidence, strength, connection, and joy.
Vintage Vitality™ was created from the belief that aging is not about slowing down or becoming invisible. Aging is a season of growth, wisdom, resilience, and possibility.
Through Tai Chi, Qigong, mindful breathing, gentle movement, and reflection, Vintage Vitality™ creates spaces where older adults can reconnect with their bodies, build confidence, and rediscover the joy of movement.
What began as community classes has grown into a larger vision: a model that honours the whole person — body, mind, emotions, culture, and life experience.
The title of my presentation, Full Circle Vitality, reflects a journey that has been years in the making.
It represents the beautiful connection between my personal experiences, my professional training, my cultural roots, and the communities I now serve.
Coming from the Philippines, where respect for elders and intergenerational connection are deeply valued, I have always believed that aging is not something to fear. It is something to embrace with dignity and grace.
Through Vintage Vitality™, I have witnessed how movement can become more than exercise. It can become a pathway to confidence, belonging, independence, and renewed purpose.
The communities I serve have taught me that wellbeing is not only measured by physical ability. It is also found in laughter after class, friendships formed through movement, stories shared, and the courage to try something new.
Being selected for an oral presentation at CAG2026 is meaningful because it creates an opportunity to share a community-based perspective within a broader conversation about healthy aging.
Many discussions about aging focus on healthcare systems, challenges, and limitations. While those conversations are important, I also believe we need to highlight what is possible.
Older adults are not simply recipients of care. They are active participants in their own wellbeing. They have stories, strengths, wisdom, and contributions that deserve to be recognized.
My hope is that sharing the Vintage Vitality™ model will inspire more conversations about accessible, inclusive, and community-centered approaches that help older adults thrive.
I feel incredibly blessed and humbled by this opportunity.
This presentation is not just about me. It represents every participant who has stepped into a Tai Chi class with curiosity and courage. It represents every community organization that opened its doors. It represents every person who believed that gentle movement could create meaningful change.
From Palmerston, Mount Forest, Harriston, Drayton, Fergus, Holstein, Cavite Philippines, and the many communities that have welcomed Vintage Vitality™, I carry your stories with me.
Every smile, every “I didn’t think I could do this,” every moment of connection — these are the true heart of this work.
As Vintage Vitality™ continues to grow, my vision remains the same:
To create more opportunities for adults to age with dignity, strength, and grace.
This upcoming presentation at CAG2026 is another step in that journey — a chance to share what we have created together and to continue building bridges between communities, cultures, and generations.
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to sharing the story of Full Circle Vitality™ with a national audience.
