Many people think creativity ends when a career path changes. For me, it shifted. I went from making journals and selling crafts — building a loyal following who even called my creations the “Nelda Collection” — to teaching Tai Chi and mindful movement for adults over 50. But I never really abandoned my creative side — it simply found a new home in movement and reflection.
I still journal every day, quietly, as a practice for mental health. Journaling helps me process, reflect, and heal my mind. While I no longer make journals for others or sell my crafts, the spirit of creation lives on in my personal writing. Sometimes the papers still call me, reminding me of that early passion, but now it’s just for me — a private, grounding practice.
Movement became the natural extension of my creativity, the way I nurtured my body and spirit. Tai Chi became my medium, and I fell in love with its gentle, mindful flow. The connection is simple: journaling heals the mind, movement heals the body, and together they heal both.
My Tai Chi teaching is evidence-based and specifically designed for adults 50+, focusing on balance, arthritis relief, and safe, accessible movements. There’s no martial content — just practical, gentle sequences that build confidence, stability, and joy. This approach makes my classes perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a safe, health-focused practice.
In both crafting and Tai Chi, I’ve learned that the journey is more important than the performance. My classes focus on:
Patience over perfection
Functional, real-life movement for balance and confidence
Accessibility for seniors with limited mobility
Small wins that build confidence and joy every day
My past as a creator is still a secret weapon. It allows me to:
Design unique teaching aids and visual guides
Write reflective, story-driven content for my students
Create programs and workshops that feel personal and human
Build a wellness brand rooted in authenticity and trust
Creativity isn’t limited to making tangible objects — it lives in energy, movement, and connection. By embracing the skills from my past and combining them with mindful, evidence-based Tai Chi, I’ve created a path that nurtures both mind and body. Journaling for mental health and gentle movement for balance and well-being are my twin practices, guiding me and my students toward calm, confidence, and vitality every day.
