This short clip was captured during our beautiful morning class at the United Church in Palmerston, where we gathered as a community to move, breathe, and reconnect.
In this video, we are practicing the first two movements of the 18 Shibashi Qigong—a gentle, flowing sequence often described as a moving meditation. Rooted in breath and awareness, these simple yet powerful movements help to awaken the body and calm the mind.
What made this class especially meaningful was the shared energy in the room—familiar faces, new beginnings, and a collective openness to move with ease and curiosity.
This is the essence of practicing Tai Chi and Qigong in community.

There are days when a class feels especially alive - and today was one of them.
The room wasn't just full of people. It was full of presence.
Familiar faces arrived with warm smiles, and new ones with quiet curiosity.
You could feel it immediately...an openness, a willingness, and a shared sense of calm unfolding together.
We began our morning in Palmerston with the 18 Shibashi Qigong, a gentle, flowing sequence often described as a moving meditation.
Rooted in breath and mindful repetition, this practice helps to:
improve circulation and joint mobility
calm the nervous system
enhance balance and coordination
support the smooth flow of energy (Qi) throughout the body
As we moved together, the shift was palpable.
Breathing deepened.
Shoulders softened.
Movements became more fluid and at ease.
From there, we explored the Five Elements of Nature, including Air—each offering its own unique benefits:
🌬 Air – opens the chest, supports lung capacity, and invites a sense of lightness
💧 Water – encourages fluid, adaptable movement and joint ease
🔥 Fire – stimulates circulation, warmth, and gentle vitality
🌍 Earth – builds grounding, stability, and balance
🌿 Wood – supports flexibility, growth, and smooth coordination
We practiced several rounds, moving clockwise and counterclockwise, gently awakening coordination and spatial awareness while maintaining softness in the body.
There was a quiet rhythm in the room—steady, connected, and calm.
Even after class ended, that calm, connected energy lingered.
A few stayed to chat—sharing stories, laughter, and that simple joy of connection.
Some of my returning students from the fall continued on with me:
one round of Sun-style Tai Chi, known for its gentle, flowing transitions
foundational movements from Yang-style practice
Not because they had to—but because they wanted to.
Their enthusiasm was truly heartwarming, and many are already looking forward to joining the upcoming 6-week program in June.
This class was held at the United Church in Palmerston—a space that already feels welcoming and grounded.
It will be our home for regular classes this June, and I look forward to continuing this journey together there.
As we wrapped up, there were hugs, kind words, and warm wishes for my upcoming trip to the Philippines this Friday.
Moments like these stay with me.
